I remember how early on, I’d be getting myself out of bed at the crack of dawn to race to my computer and post classified ads before anybody else did. My thinking was along the lines of “The Early Bird Gets the Worm”
I don’t do that anymore and I would suggest that there’s no good reason for you to think that you need to do it either.
Here’s why: Back in the good old days of actual newspapers yes, we all learned there’s only so much ad space and we had to get our ad in before there was no more space to buy. That’s an “early bird” scenario that made sense. And for any of you that are still using classified in print do make sure you get your ad placed in time and while there’s still space.
But in the online classified world you want to post when your target audience is most likely to see your ad.
Let’s take a look. When you post an ad at almost any online forum, you go to the top of the list, and you stay there until the next post arrives. If your target audience is more likely to be looking at ads around 4:00 o’clock, then you want to post around 4:00 o’clock. Don’t post at 3:00 o’clock if it’s an active board. You’ll be buried and your ad will likely not be seen.
So the trick is figure out when your target audience is likely to be online and that’s when you post your ads.
Sometimes, it’s the simplest things that make the biggest improvements!
Want a tip on finding out when your target audience is active? Go sign up at a couple of REI forums and groups and see when people are chatting in groups or what time they are typically posting.
All the best,
Gary
